Oh Happy Day!

So the illness that had ravaged my body also known as the common cold has left me. I still had to go to my day job but it feels like an eternity since I've been able to semi-function. Since I've been out of the loop you can imagine my surprise when I get another news alert saying that pretrial testimony would continue today. In my over the counter haze I asked myself who's pretrial was scheduled for the beginning of the year.

Then a light bulb went off in my head... duh... Drew Peterson!

For those of you not familiar with this scum I use that term in part because I don't want to offend the human or animal race and secondly because his past behavior can be best described as predatory and publicity whorey two traits that humans and animals are incapable of possessing.

Little back story: In March of 2004 Peterson's third wife and mother to two of his six yeah someone actually procreated with this goon six separate times Kathleen Savio was found dead in her bathtub. Prosecutors are alleging that Peterson killed Savio by drowning her in the bathtub. Her body was exhumed at the request of a special grand jury in November of 2007. Savio's death was first ruled an accident but upon the disappearance of Peterson's fourth wife Stacy Peterson (no relation to the Stacey Peterson from Modesto, California) police felt it necessary to reopen the case for further investigation. Peterson had since plead Not Guilty liar to two counts of first degree murder though he has yet to be charged in the murder of Stacy Peterson

What's unique about this case is that this is the first time that we get to see a new law called Drew's Law in action. This law allows for statements from victims who are believed to have been murdered used during the course of the trial. The trial is being held to determine exactly how much hearsay will be admissible during the trial. Two witnesses have already testified that the ex-cop had either threatened to kill his wife or wished that she were dead.

As if I haven't expressed my disdain for this scum I will elaborate. I don't understand how a many with six children is capable of murder not once but twice. I believe that he used his position as an officer as a shield to protect him from prying eyes. There are already people out there who view all cops as dirty and this just takes it to another level.

I know that I'm supposed to stay unbiased member of the media umm not gonna happen and that everyone is innocent until proven guilty but I just can't. I can't because there are children that will never truly get to know their mother or step mother. Those children were robbed of their maternal figures at least two of the six twice. This man is a predator and when he's done with his hunt and has his victim he has some fun, but watch out when he's done because he just tosses the body to the side and moves on to the next victim!

He Loved His Mother to Death

I've been following this story since the news broke last week of the arrest of Lee High School student Danish Minhas on charges of capital murder. The charges stem from the November slaying of his own mother 43 year old Tabassum Khan.

Last week Minhas' classmate Nur J. Mohamed was arrested on the charge of drug possession. When interviewed by the police Mohamed confession to the drug possession and the murder of Ms. Khan. Mohamed claims the Minhas gave him $1000 to kill his mother.

The motive you ask?

Minhas felt that his Muslim mother was too strict!

"No different than any other restrictions than any other parent of a teenager would apply on them who was being a responsible parent, and he didn't want to follow those rules," said Sgt. Harris of the Houston Police Department.

     Danish Minhas                                                   Nur Mohamed

Police say that Minhas has confessed to the hiring Nur Mohamed but is showing no remorse for his actions. He has been booked for solicitation of capital murder.

At one point during my research I came across this quote from Sgt. Harris that made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck "During one point in the interview, he said, 'I loved my mother to death, guess he meant that literally."

Update: As I was typing out this post news came down that a third suspect has been picked up in connection with the murder of Tabassum Khan. 17 year old Kevin Andrew Haney was charged with tampering with evidence. Police are alleging that Haney removed evidence from the home after the murder and actually handled the money that was transferred from Minhas to Mohamed.

What is really going on here?! Where are the parents of these students? There are so many questions and not enough answers. Initially, when I sat down to write this post I thought about making a joke that the hits keep coming and coming for Lee High School after their basketball team's 170-35 loss to Yates High School but this is truly no laughing matter!

Edward J. O'Hare: An Honorary Untouchable?

It's true if author Jonathan Eig is to be believed. According to his new book "Get Capone" Eig suggests that the late Edward O'Hare was murdered by gangster Al Capone. What was Capone's motive, you ask. There are two sides to every argument one being that O'Hare was murdered as a sort of gift for Capone who was getting out of prison shortly. The other, Eig's, claims that he was murdered because he wouldn't share the profits from his racetrack.

Eventually O'Hare had provided invaluable information to the Treasury Department, information that lead to Capone being tossed in the slammer for 11 years. In exchange for the priceless information O'Hare's son, Edward "Butch" O'Hare was given admission to the U.S. Naval Academy. Butch O'Hare became a decorated war hero but was later killed in the line of duty.

This is major news considering that fact that the Chicago Police Department has decided to reopen the case. Apparently Alderman Edward Burke, a former officer on the force, is spearheading the campaign to relaunch the 70+ year old investigation. I'm really eager to read this book. I'm a notsosecret history buff and I'm completely in love with all things gangland!

Trivia: Chicago's O'Hare Airport is named for Edward "Butch" O'Hare.

UNICEF Urgently Appeals for Aid for Haiti:

The U.S. Fund for UNICEF is urgently appealing for emergency assistance to aid the victims of a devastating earthquake that rocked the Caribbean nation of Haiti early today.
The quake, which registered 7.0 on the Richter scale, triggered a tsunami warning for neighboring countries situated in the Caribbean Sea.

The earthquake was centered about 14 miles west of the capital city, Port-au-Prince and early news stories report of wide spread devastation.

Funds are urgently needed to provide safe water, temporary shelter systems, essential medical supplies etc. UNICEF's country office in Haiti and the regional office located in Panama has deployed emergency teams to assess the situation and determine what the additional emergency needs are for the people of Haiti.

Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and has a population of 9.6 million inhabitants, of which more than half are under 21 years old.  UNICEF has been working in Haiti since 1949 and works directly with Haiti's government on developing long term solutions to current problems caused by poverty and lack of basic health care, education and sanitation services.

The country has been suffering from long-term political strife and a severely depressed economy. In recent years the effects of the global food crisis and particularly strong hurricane seasons have left the country dangerously vulnerable. This catastrophe will only exacerbate the already critical situation for the people of Haiti, especially women and children.

To donate to the ongoing emergency relief efforts in Haiti and the Caribbean region, please visit: www.unicefusa.org/haitiquake or call 1-800-4UNICEF.

Under The Weather!

For the past few days I've been fighting with this cold. Unfortunately, it's been kicking my ass like a pro-MMA fighter! Sheesh! I'll be catching up on my rest but I'll post later!

Self Defense or Murder –

Atlanta based Producer Shawty Redd was arrested on New Year's Day following the shooting and subsequent death of acquaintance Damon A. Martin. When initially questions by the police Redd, who's real name is Demetrius Stewart, claimed that Martin was shot accidentally. Police later discovered that Stewart and Martin had been involved in an altercation which later turned physical.

Self defense must be the first thought that pops into a suspect's head when they're in trouble. I guess they assume that you can't disprove that the victim wasn't trying to harm or kill them first. Any layperson knows from watching an episode of Forensic Files scientist can prove how the incident went down.

Update: A hearing for Stewart has been postponed until January 12th due to legal representation not being available until then.

The Haunting of Mississippi

Early this morning I was minding my own business (yeah right!), checking my email when out of no where I get a news alert "Disgraced Miss. judge reports to federal prison". At first I thought nothing of it but something told me to go back and read it. To my shock I read that Bobby DeLaughter is scheduled to turn himself into federal prison today no later than 2 p.m. Apparently, DeLaughter plead guilty for lying to the FBI about conversations that he had with his former boss, D.A. Ed Peters in the midst of a bribery investigation.

WHAT?! I said to myself, how could Bobby DeLaughter be going to jail. For those not familiar with DeLaughter's career please find a copy of "Ghosts of Mississippi" and watch it! He is a legendary prosecutor who helped put Byron De La Beckwith, a man who almost got a way with the brutal murder of civil rights activist Medgar Evars in jail. Sadly, Prisoner 12930-042 formerly known as Bobby DeLaughter will serve the next 18 months behind bars as a part of his plea bargain. Another condition of the plea bargain was that DeLaughter would not be charged with conspiracy and mail fraud.

Tisk tisk! Another one bites the dust I guess!

Renewing Last Year's Resolutions!

Okay!
So last  year I said that I was going to do a detox and start taking my vitamins more regularly since I only followed through with half of that resolution, I figured it would be best to recycle last year's resolution. I vow that in 2010 I will take my vitamins more regularly and do a detox!
What are some of your resolutions?
