Mass. Woman Charged With Cutting Newborn from Mother

According to the Associated Press:

A woman who authorities believe faked her own pregnancy was charged Thursday with killing her pregnant friend, cutting her baby girl from her womb and kidnapping the infant. Julie Corey, 35, was initially charged with kidnapping after authorities found her and the 4-pound girl in a homeless shelter in Plymouth, N.H., in July. On Thursday, a Worcester County grand jury returned indictments charging Corey with both kidnapping and murder. DNA tests showed that the baby was cut from the womb of Darlene Haynes, 23. Haynes was eight months pregnant when she was killed in her Worcester apartment. Authorities said Julie Corey, of Worcester, and her boyfriend were friends with Haynes and her boyfriend. In the months before Haynes was killed, Corey told her family and her boyfriend that she was pregnant. Her boyfriend's family said she introduced a baby girl to them at a family gathering on July 25, two days before Haynes' body was found in a closet, wrapped in bedding.The state medical examiner determined the cause of death to be "blunt force trauma, asphyxia by ligature strangulation and incision of abdomen."Corey will plead not guilty when she is arraigned on the murder and kidnapping charges in Worcester Superior Court, said her attorney, Louis Aloise. No date has been set for the arraignment."Other than the fact that there was a homicide, I don't know what evidence they have linking her to the particular crime," Aloise said.Aloise said he believes several people, including Haynes' boyfriend and Corey's boyfriend, "were in a position to be in the company of Miss Haynes at or around the time of her death." No one else has been charged.

"Other than the fact that there was a homicide, I don't know what evidence they have linking her to the particular crime," Aloise said. Really?! There's no evidence linking your client to the crime? Oh I don't know how about the fact that she's in possession of a baby girl whose maternal DNA matches that of the victim. If she didn't kill the victim then how did she obtain the infant? How about the fact that she has plenty motive, last time I checked no one saw her give birth. Is there any record of her going for prenatal treatments? Some of these defense lawyers are real pieces of work, that comment really ticked me off. 

Lamenting!

I'm sitting behind my laptop questioning myself about whether or not I should have started this blog, if I was ready or if it was just something that was spur of the moment. In all honesty I can't tell either way but what I do know is that I should be actively participating in what I started. I can't sit idly by and allow my thoughts, hopes, and feelings to waste away. This is the time that I should be taking the bull by his horns and dominating. I'm so much better than sitting on the sidelines. I should just suck it up and do better because I am better!

So I just wanted to apologize to whoever may have read my entry and thought that I would be posting more often, my intentions were to but I didn't follow through with those intentions. I made a mistake and I will begin updating more regularly! That's a promise!

Susan Atkins: Woman I have no mercy for you!

By this time we are all familiar with this story of the infamous Manson Family, so there's no need to delve into the gory details for this post (we'll save that for another time). Unfortunately, the story has cropped up as the 40th memoriam (I won't use the word anniversary as this is not an occasion to celebrate) of the Manson Family murders has come and gone. However, the penal system still has to deal with the many pleas for parole or mercy.

One such plea of mercy comes from convicted murder Susan Atkins, who has since been stricken with cancer and is now paralyzed over 85% of her body. Atkins commissioned the court to release her out of compassion. She would like to spend the last days of her life in the comfort her husband's arms. LA County District Attorney summed it up best when he stated, "horrific crimes alone warrant a denial of her request [Atkins] failed to demonstrate genuine remorse and lacks insight and understanding of the gravity of her crimes."

It is this blogger's opinion that Atkins is to never released from the confines of prison, especially on the basis of compassion. The last time that I checked she didn't show an ounce of compassion toward Sharon Tate as she was repeatedly stabbed. Nor did she try to spare the life of an unborn child which is unforgivable in my eyes. During the sentencing phase of the trial, Atkins testified that she stabbed Tate. She stated that she had stabbed Tate because she was "sick of listening to her, pleading and begging, begging and pleading", She also testified that Tate had pleaded for her life and that of her unborn child, to which Atkins replied, "Woman, I have no mercy for you." That's enough of a confession for me feel as though she should never be allowed to see the light of day outside of her cell or hospital bed.

On September 2, 2009 Atkins was denied parole for the 13th time, which may very well be her last parole hearing. Her physicians have given her 6 months or less to live.

UPDATE: On September 24, 2009 Atkins died at the Central California Women's facility.  Her husband, James Whitehouse, released the following statement according to the National Post: "Susan passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and loved ones and the incredible staff at the Skilled Nursing Facility at the Central California Women's Facility ... Her last whispered word was 'Amen.' No one (on) the face of the Earth worked as hard as Susan did to right an unrightable wrong."

Well to sum it up in a few words you're about encounter a blog that is 100% devoted to reporting true crime. I know, I know it may sound cheesy but I really have a passion for the law and specifically the criminal aspect of it. There are lots of people who dream of being prosecutors and defense attorneys and I'm no different but I also have dreams of writing about all of those fascinating people.

 

Hopefully my blog will serve as a meeting place for true crime addicts to get their daily fix of what's happening out there in the world of crime. So let's get this show on the road! Please bare with me after all this is my first serious blog and I'm shaking in my boots!
